Read the activity trail
See who did what, when, across the whole company — the record that settles "who changed this?"

Every record created, updated or corrected leaves a line here, with the person who did it and when. It is the answer to "who changed this?", and it cannot be edited by anyone — including you.
Most of the time you will never open it. The times you do, it is the only thing that helps.
Narrow it down
Activity in the sidebar. The trail is long by design, so it is built to be filtered rather than scrolled.
What to look at:
Record type — invoices, payments, contacts, stock movements, and the rest. This is usually the fastest cut: you know what changed even when you do not know who.
Action — Created, Updated, Deleted, or Existing record. Updated is the one you want when something looks different from how you remember it.
From — with To beside it. Bound the window to the days in question; "sometime last month" is not a filter.
Apply runs it. Clear filters starts again.

Read a line
Each entry names the person, the record, what happened, when, and any status change — a quotation moving to Accepted, an invoice moving to Confirmed.
It stores which fields changed, not what they changed to. That is deliberate: the trail can be read by anyone with access to it, and turning it into a second copy of your commercial data would make it a liability rather than a safeguard.
For the values themselves, go to the record. The correction that changed it is still there beside the original, because nothing here is edited away.
What it is good for
Answering a question, not policing people. The common uses are dull and useful: which of us entered this supplier twice, when did this price change, who archived that customer.
Reconstructing an afternoon. When several people work the same company, the trail is the only place the order of events survives.
The trail shows the most recent activity rather than the whole history of the company, so narrow the dates when you are looking for something older. And it is per company — group scope aside, an event belongs to the company it happened in.
