Start a batch
Create a production order, check the store can cover it, and take the raw materials out when the work really begins.

Before you start
A batch is one run of making something. It has three states and the middle one is the important one: starting a batch is what takes the raw materials out of the store. Creating it moves nothing, and printing it moves nothing.
Create the batch
Production in the sidebar. On the right, choose what you are making — only products with a recipe appear — then how many, which store the materials come from, and which store the finished goods will go into. They are usually the same store; they do not have to be.
Create the batch copies the recipe onto the order, scaled to the quantity you asked for and including any waste allowance. Nothing has left the store yet.
Check the materials
The batch lists every material it will take, with what is in that store beside it. Where the store is short, the line says how much is missing.
While the batch is still waiting to start you can change any quantity: type the new figure and confirm it. This is for the day the recipe is not quite what happened — a heavier bag, a substitution agreed on the floor — not for making a shortage disappear.
Print the job sheet and the person at the machine has the materials to collect on paper, in their own language. Being paper, it also works when the connection does not.
Start it
Start — take the materials out records the movements. Each material leaves the store at what the store says it is worth: the moving weighted average, the same figure any other outgoing movement would use.
If the store does not hold enough of one material, the batch will not start and nothing is taken. That is deliberate — a batch that started on stock you do not have would leave a negative balance and a cost nobody can explain. Find the missing receipt or count the shelf rather than adjusting until it accepts.
What you can see now
The batch is being made. Its material cost is now a real figure, and the overview counts it under materials on the floor — value that has left the store for work nobody has finished.
The movements are in the stock ledger with the batch number as their reference, so a balance that dropped can always be traced to the batch that took it.
