Add a product or a service
Record what you sell once, with its price, tax and pack size, so every invoice and till press fills itself in.

The catalogue is what makes everything else fast. An item recorded once brings its description, price and tax rate to every invoice, quotation, purchase order and till press for the rest of its life.
It also decides whether the thing is tracked in stock at all — which is the one choice on this screen you cannot change later.
Say what it is
Products & services in the sidebar, then the add form.

What to look at:
Item name — what your team calls it. It prints on the customer's invoice, so write it as they should read it.
SKU / reference — your own code. Search matches on it, so a code your staff actually remember is worth more than a tidy one nobody uses.
Barcode — scan it straight into this box with the same reader you use at the till. That is what makes counter sales one press.
Item type — Stock item, Consumable, Service, or Asset. This is the important one. A stock item has quantities, movements and a value; a service has none of those. Once the item has any stock history, the type and the unit are locked, because changing them would rewrite what already happened.
Set packs, prices and tax

What to look at:
Units per pack — how many units are in the pack you actually sell. Set it to 24 for a carton of 24 and one press at the till sells a carton. Pack name beside it is what appears on the document.
Sale price — what you charge. Prices agreed with a particular customer override this automatically.
Cost price — what you pay. This seeds the stock value until real receipts take over, after which the moving average governs.
Default tax — the VAT rate that comes across onto every line. Getting it right here is worth an hour of not correcting invoices later.
Unit, description, and any business-specific fields fill in the rest. Share with the group makes the item usable by your other companies.
Press Save item.
Correcting and retiring
Edit changes anything still changeable. Archive item removes it from the lists without touching a single document it appears on — but archiving is refused while stock remains, because an item you still hold is an item you still own.
Services and consumables are the right choice more often than people expect. Delivery charges, installation, maintenance visits — all of them belong in the catalogue so they price themselves on an invoice, and none of them should ever appear in a stock count.
